Do you believe in aliens? If you do, I am sorry to break it to you, but they do not exist. Although there is a vast solar system, it is greatly unlikely that there is extraterrestrial life. In the article called “Aliens and Archaeology”, written by Katy Meyers Emery, Katy discusses why people are so obsessed with finding evidence of extraterrestrials.
There has recently been a news report that an alien thighbone had been found on Mars. This “bone” ended up being a rock, however, it still became worldwide news. What is the fascination with aliens? Some people may believe in aliens based on monuments that were created before the industrial revolution, such as the Nazca Lines, Stonehenge, or even the Pyramids of Giza. Other people may believe in aliens based on ancient skulls, such as Starchild. This was a child’s skull found in a mine tunnel in Mexico. The strange thing about this skull is that it is 200 cubic centimeters larger than the average adult’s brain. This enlarged cranium is what most people picture aliens to look like, although there is evidence that this child suffered from congenital hydrocephalus, or “water on the brain”.
Although evidence of aliens would be cool, remember that the human body can be changed by disease or modified through human intervention and end up looking like an “alien”.
